Principal Electrical Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

IEC Corporation is seeking Principal Electrical Engineers with comprehensive power industry experience to support electrical power projects for our Sacramento, California office. Specific work will include the design of power plants, substations, and/or electrical service facilities and the preparation of complete design and construction packages with all required electrical drawings including one-lines, schematics, elementaries, wiring diagrams, layouts, drawings, etc.

REQUIRED SKILL SET & EXPERIENCE

Principal Electrical Engineers should have working experience in the following areas:

  • Preparation of equipment specifications and design drawing packages, and the interpretation of electrical design drawings.
  • Design of substation facilities at various voltage levels including voltages up to 230 kV.
  • Various aspects of power system design, construction, relay protection, and problem solving.
  • Design standards, calculating relay settings for transmission lines, distribution lines, generators, buses, and transformers.
  • Modern relays, generation and transmission line protection, electro-mechanical, solid state and microprocessor relays and relaying schemes, relay settings, understanding of electrical design and drawings, and relay testing philosophy and methodology.
  • New microprocessor-based relays, electromechanical, and solid state relays.
  • Transmission and generation protection schemes.
  • Different types of relay setting and logic building software for complicated relaying scheme used on the high voltage transmission lines, and knowledge of computer application programs used in the industry.
  • Development of complete electrical design packages that include conceptual design, detail drawings, wiring, RTU, bill of materials, cable schedules, cost estimates, and to provide engineering support during construction phase.
  • Electrical power system design and analysis, problem analysis and corrective modification design, and associated material procurement packages.
  • Engineering cost benefit analysis, project scheduling, and project management.
  • Preparation of electrical equipment specifications, including relays, wiring, panels, etc.

Principal Electrical Engineers should possess:

  • Familiarity with industry standards, such as IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, NEC, etc.
  • Commitment to customer service and ability to lead functional project teams.
  • Ability to contribute to preparation and delivery of presentations to customers is preferred.

Candidates must have: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Professional Engineering (PE) license, and a minimum of eight (8) years of similar experience with specific work in power system or substation design. Candidates must also be computer literate with knowledge of typically-used electrical engineering analysis programs.
