SMUD Taps IEC for Assessment & Analysis of Local Renewable Generation

Sacramento, Calif., October 6, 2008 –SMUD has assigned IEC Corporation a study to identify and quantify the least cost renewable generation options for SMUD to pursue or encourage locally. The objective of the work will be to identify the renewable resources; assess and quantify the renewable generation potential; calculate the cost of local renewable generation; and compare those costs to distant renewable projects that require transmission. The results of this study will assist SMUD in its decision-making process for allocation of funds and project solicitations for renewable generation projects over the next few years.

SMUD currently has a renewable supply goal of 23% by 2011. The SMUD Board is likely to dictate an aggressive long term goal if the state implements 33% by 2020 (anticipated Governor’s Executive Order) or 50% by 2025 (Proposition 7) goals.
