SMUD Assigns Central Plant Study to IEC

Sacramento, Calif., November 6, 2008 – SMUD selected IEC to conduct a study on the technical and economic feasibility of combined heat and power (CHP) and thermal energy storage (TES) for a local major health care/medical campus as part of an ongoing evaluation of several potential central plant projects. The feasibility study will evaluate the cost to build, own, and operate a reciprocating engine cogeneration plant to serve the medical campus. The scope of the study includes evaluating a single reciprocating engine configuration under two ownership cases to determine various ownership benefits. IEC will prepare a detailed executive-level report that provides the capital costs, operations and maintenance costs, emissions information, and a summary of benefits.
