IEC Supports Industrial Facility Cogeneration Upgrade

Adams Vegetable Oils has hired IEC to provide professional engineering services to study the use of cogeneration at the facility. Currently Adams has an existing 500 kW natural gas powered reciprocating engine cogeneration plant, with emission cleanup equipment and a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). This unit is currently non-operational because it is not able to operate within air permit requirements. Adams has asked IEC to evaluate the existing facility and recommend a cogeneration plant configuration that best meets Adams’ goals of reducing operational costs and increasing operational reliability. To meet these goals, IEC will evaluate the available prime-mover technologies (fuel cells, reciprocating engines, micro turbines, and existing cogeneration plant) and recommend a configuration. A second-phase assessment will include a detailed technical and economic evaluation on the recommended configuration to provide Adams the detailed information necessary to support the cogeneration business plan.
