Substation Plan of Service for Solano Wind Project

LOCATION: Solano, CA

IEC performed a substation options analysis to assist SMUD in preparing for the potential development of additional land for more wind generation. To perform this analysis, IEC evaluated the wind generation potential in the remaining SMUD property and near-term potential land acquisitions, determined the required substation capacity to adequately handle the wind generation, and investigated the wind-specific regulatory requirements for the interconnection of wind generation to utility grids. Our experts then developed conceptual technical requirements for the design of the required substation, including basic equipment lists and ratings, and determined possible substation locations and interconnection configurations. IEC also developed a list of electrical features, systems, and ratings for a wind project of this size. All findings were detailed in a report and submitted to SMUD for use in project planning and system studies.
