Maximum Renewable Energy Penetration Study

IEC and Leidos worked with LADWP to develop a Maximum Renewable Energy Penetration Study.

CLIENT:

LOS ANGELES DEPARTMENT OF WATER & POWER (LADWP)

LADWP is in the process of increasing renewable energy resources in order to comply with state mandates. Further, as the amount of renewable energy continues to increase, there is a need to identify the maximum location-specific production of renewable energy on the LADWP’s transmission system. IEC and Leidos worked with LADWP to develop a Maximum Renewable Energy Penetration Study that: (1) determined the maximum renewable penetration on LADWP’s transmission system; (2) identified transmission or system constraints that limit renewable production; and (3) recommended the most efficient strategies for operating these renewable resources. The study also resulted in recommended improvements to the system so it could accommodate additional renewable resource along with LADWP’s reliability must-run units.
