For the Dutch Flat 2 Hydroelectric facility, NID experienced a major relay protection trip event (87G) associated with the generator. The event occurred late afternoon after which NID called upon IEC after hours for emergency engineering support. NID relay techs emailed IEC engineers the “trip event files” in the evening for analysis although our staff was at home. After review of the event reports and troubleshooting over the phone with NID’s relay techs, IEC was able to identify the issue and make recommendations to address the problem. NID was able to bring the generator online first thing the next morning due to IEC’s flexibility, responsiveness, and willingness to work with the client after hours.
