Russell Substation Phase 2 Expansion

IEC designed the 100MVA expansion of the existing Russell Substation as part of Phase II of the Solano Wind Farm.

CLIENT:

SACRAMENTO MUNICIPAL UTILITY DISTRICT

Russell Substation was designed to support the Sacramento Municipal Utility District’s Solano Wind Project near Rio Vista, California. IEC designed the 100MVA expansion of the existing substation to accommodate the additional wind turbine-generators (WTGs) that will be installed as part of Phase II of the Solano Wind Farm.

The project included upgrading portions of the existing substation to meet SMUD’s current standards and adding a new 60/80/100MVA power transformer, four (4) 21.6kV feeder SF-6 breakers, two (2) 230kV circuit switchers, modular pre-wired control building, and the associated protective relaying, metering, SCADA, and bus structures. IEC also developed the procure-construct contract for the project installation and provided management assistance and field engineering through its successful completion. The project was installed under budget and with minimal downtime for the existing wind generation.
